I am the Managing Director and Insolvency Practitioner of The Debt Advisor Ltd based in Old Trafford, Manchester and our services cover non-lending solutions to individuals and businesses in the UK, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
I was born and initially raised in Northern Rhodesia (which is now Zambia) and I moved to South Africa when I was still small. In my early twenties I moved to the Manchester and was lucky enough to get a break to work for a national firm of chartered accountants now known as Deloittes.
One of the managers there was from South Africa and said they had a vacancy within the Insolvency department – the first few weeks felt as if I’d been transported to a different planet with a completely different language!
After 17 years with Deloitte, I eventually branched out on my own and in 2000, I established The Debt Advisor and The Business Debt Advisor and the rest is history as they say.
I have campaigned over the last 10 years to make sure that non lending solutions are fit for purpose and have built a strong team around me who understand the effects that debt can have on a person’s life.
In my teens I had a spell as a Croupier in Sun City. It was amazing fun being independent and living amongst hundreds of 20 “something’s”. I do recall some punters losing their entire livelihoods over the tables. Punters would keep on trying to “break the bank” – I would tell them to take a break. Some did but many didn’t and I got to see how devastating compulsive addictions can be.
We now work with a psycho-therapist who provides soft skills training to our team who is on hand to help clients who are really struggling with the wider effects of debt.
We are well placed to help clients regain control of their finances and have won numerous awards for doing so. It is lovely to see notes and testimonials from clients who we have helped to get their finances and lives back on track.
I have three teenage children who have widened my music interests! Can’t say I care much for drum n base apart from Pendulum! But I do love being a rock chick – the less said the better. In June last year I took up golf - can hit my 5 wood 200 yards but my putter does not work!
